Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Saturday strongly criticised Germany's Ambassador to Georgia, accusing him of operating “entirely outside the scope of the Vienna Convention” and interfering in Georgia's internal processes.
Machavariani’s comments came in response to Peter Fischer’s recent public statements denying the existence of a deep state and defending opposition politician Elene Khoshtaria.
“He has completely overstepped the bounds of the Vienna Convention and is involved in internal processes. Sometimes he attends court hearings, sometimes he tries to pressure judges, sometimes he states what sanctions a convicted person should receive and how many years or months are sufficient for this. Sometimes he goes to Ms. Khoshtaria and, instead of calling on her to stop self-harm, he, on the contrary, motivates her to continue her hunger strike, and so on”, Machavariani noted.
The MP also addressed Ambassador Peter Fischer's statement that a “deep state” does not exist.
“When Mr. Fischer says that this is supposedly Georgian Dream propaganda, he is indirectly insulting the current administration of the United States of America and Mr. Trump. So, Mr. Trump and the current administration supposedly fell for the Georgian Dream's so-called propaganda? He should answer that then”, Machavariani concluded.
