Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said the ruling Georgian Dream party would secure victory in the upcoming local elections in absolutely every municipality, regardless of which opposition parties choose to participate.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kobakhidze noted that the legitimacy of local elections was in no way affected by which parties participated in the elections.
“Local elections are not considered classic political elections, therefore, the issue of legitimacy is not on the agenda at all. As for competition, it doesn’t matter to us, either way, we will win both the mayoral and the council elections in all 64 municipalities, the configuration doesn’t matter. Whether all four parties participate, two, three, one, or none at all, we will win both the mayoral and Sakrebulo elections in all 64 municipalities”, the PM said.
The Prime Minister cited recent sociological surveys indicating an increase in his party's ratings, even compared to the 2024 parliamentary elections.
“Our approval rating has increased even compared to the approval rating in the parliamentary elections, which is what sociological research shows. Therefore, in absolutely all municipalities we will win the elections either way. Consequently, it's up to the opposition to decide what they will do; it's of no interest to us whatsoever”, he concluded.
