Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Wednesday responded to a statement by an opposition figure Tamar Chergoleishvili, who remarked that extremism was not always a bad thing.
“When we look at the NGO sector - what we call the wealthy NGOs - virtually 100 percent of them are extremist. It is very unfortunate that they continue to receive funding from European foundations”, he said.
“It is also regrettable that the British Embassy considered financing the [opposition outlet] Tabula, given that Ms. Chergoleishvili is its founder. In this case, it turns out the British Embassy was also funding extremism. Extremism and pseudo-liberal fascism in Georgia will inevitably come to an end”, Machavariani concluded.
