Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday described as unprecedented the ongoing hunger strike by an opposition figure Elene Khoshtaria, who, unusually, was making demands not of the Government but of the opposition itself - calling it a clear sign of the radical opposition’s deep crisis.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze stressed that the incident underscored the extremely dire state of the radical opposition.
“This may be the first instance in human history where an opposition figure is on a hunger strike and placing demands on their own side. It speaks to the extremely difficult state of the radical opposition”, the PM said.
He added that this situation actually benefited the country’s continued stable and peaceful development.
“Yesterday, it became even more evident just how dire the radical opposition’s condition is. Four parties, 40 NGOs, funding from European bureaucracy, the entire deep state - they were all involved, and at its peak, they managed to gather 2,000 “Georgian people”. This is the current state of the radical opposition”, Kobakhidze concluded.
