Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday highlighted the critical importance of strengthening the country’s foreign policy positions and expanding international relations during his annual address to Parliament.
In his address, Kobakhidze emphasised that numerous significant visits to various countries had been undertaken to achieve these goals.
“It is of particular importance for us to reinforce our country’s foreign policy stance and broaden our international ties. In pursuit of this goal, numerous significant visits have been carried out to various countries. Among them, I personally had significant visits to countries in the region, Central Asia, and the United Arab Emirates. Several visits also took place in Hungary. As you know, Hungary is a key European country supporting our country's European integration. Participation in international summits was also very important. In all directions, we are trying our best to expand our international connections”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze further stressed the critical importance of restoring the strategic partnership with the United States, indicating that Georgia was awaiting reciprocal steps from Washington.
“Relations with the United States are a very important priority for us. As you know, we made a public statement on this topic, stating that we are ready to restore the strategic partnership with the US, and we are ready to do this with a specific roadmap that will reflect benefits for both countries. We are awaiting reciprocal steps”, he noted.
The Prime Minister noted positive developments in diplomatic representation, including the appointment of Georgia's Ambassador to the United States.
“We believe recent changes will help reset bilateral relations, and we hope to see the strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States restored”, the PM concluded.
