Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday announced a historic milestone in the country's employment figures during his annual report to Parliament, with the unemployment rate at the end of last year reaching an all-time low of 13.9% since Georgia regained its independence.
In his address, Kobakhidze highlighted this achievement as a direct reflection of the country's economic growth translating into an improved standard of living for its citizens.
“In 2012, the unemployment rate was 26.7%. Over the years, we have managed to cut that figure by nearly half. We often hear debates about whether economic growth translates into improvements in people’s lives. The data from 2024 shows clearly that it does”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze highlighted that over 185,000 new jobs have been created in the country between 2022 and 2024. In 2024 alone, the number of employed persons grew by 68,000, pushing total employment to over 1.4 million for the first time in Georgia’s post-independence history - a new all-time high.
“This demonstrates that economic growth is directly impacting people’s lives - their employment and livelihoods - which is our key priority. Economic growth means little unless every citizen can benefit from it. The employment figures prove that this growth is indeed reaching a wide segment of the population”, he concluded.
