During his annual report to Parliament, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday announced that the first phase of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port construction would be completed no later than 2029.
In his address, Kobakhidze noted that preparatory works had already begun at the Anaklia site, including dredging and the construction of breakwaters.
He further added that a total of $600 million would be invested in the first phase, after the completion of which, the port would serve more than 600,000 containers per year.
“The first phase of this project will be completed no later than 2029, although given the pace, we believe that the first phase can be completed in a much shorter time frame. In total, $600 million will be invested in the first phase, and after the completion of the first phase, the port will serve more than 600 thousand containers per year”, the Prime Minister said.
He further highlighted the great importance of the Anaklia Port project for the country, specifically for the Samegrelo region and noted that “it is important to implement and complete this project within the appropriate time frame”.
