On the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Thursday underscored the importance of a value-driven state policy as a key foundation for nurturing responsible future generations.
In a social media message, the President highlighted the necessity of strengthening national values to effectively confront the threats posed by drugs and related criminal activities.
“A state policy focused on reinforcing healthy values is the cornerstone of raising a well-thinking generation - a vital component in the fight against drugs and drug-related crime”, the President said.
“Today once again reminds us that drug addiction and drug-related crime remain among the most serious global challenges - posing not only a threat to individual health but also causing widespread social problems and harming future generations”, he noted.
The President further highlighted that the goal was to take “clear, correct, and result-oriented” steps to protect young people from harmful influences.
“It is our duty to intensify the fight against drug crime and raise awareness about drugs to ensure that future generations grow up in a safe environment and choose a healthy lifestyle, education, and development. Of course, it is also crucial to assist and support people struggling with drug addiction”, Kavelashvili added.
He further noted that specific steps were being taken at every institutional level to implement this goal, with relevant agencies working in coordination - a process he said would yield “tangible and significant results”.
The President welcomed recent legislative amendments strengthening the fight against drug-related crime and highlighted two initiatives announced by the Prime Minister aimed at combating drug addiction.
“It is important for everyone to understand that a state policy oriented toward the reinforcement of healthy values lays the foundation for correctly-thinking generations, and this is one of the key components in combating drugs and drug-related crime”, he concluded.
