Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday said that Brussels had to cease justifying politically motivated crimes and interfering in the country’s justice system.
In a social media message, Papuashvili expressed regret that Brussels appeared unwilling to heed the lessons of the past.
“It is unfortunate that Brussels fails to take into account the lessons of the past - lessons from cases like those of Saakashvili, Melia, Gvaramia, Rustavi 2, and others, where the Strasbourg Court consistently exposed the injustice of such interference”, he said.
Papuashvili argued that if EU bureaucrats and politicians were truly committed to European values, they should have apologised to the Georgian people after each of the European Court of Human Rights’ rulings.
“Instead of offering apologies, we continue to witness unjust attacks against the Georgian state and a repetition of the same vicious cycle”, the Speaker concluded.
