Anri Okhanashvili, the Head of the State Security Service, on Tuesday presented the agency’s 2024 activity report at a plenary session of the Parliament, summarising last year’s work and answering lawmakers’ questions.
In his remarks, Okhanashvili outlined the main threats and challenges facing the country in 2024 and detailed the measures implemented in response.
He further noted that the Security Service operated in a complex geopolitical environment while fulfilling its national security mandate.
“For Georgia, 20 percent of whose territory remains occupied, it is a top priority to maintain peace and ensure a stable and secure environment in the region. Effective interagency coordination and close international cooperation with neighbouring countries are of vital importance in this regard”, the official said.
“I would also like to stress that there is no alternative for the parties involved in armed conflicts other than deescalation and a negotiated settlement”, he continued.
Okhanashvili concluded by emphasising that the ongoing developments reaffirmed the critical role of the State Security Service in safeguarding Georgia’s national interests.
