Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday announced a key reshuffle in Georgia’s economic leadership, appointing Mariam Kvrivishvili as the new Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and naming Levan Davitashvili as Chief Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Economic Council.
Kvrivishvili, who previously served as Deputy Economy Minister, will now lead the Ministry.
The Prime Minister praised her successful work in managing the tourism and aviation sectors and expressed confidence in her expanded role.
“Mariam Kvrivishvili is well known to the public and requires no special introduction. She is a member of the ruling party’s political council and has been leading tourism and aviation [sectors] with great success. I am confident she will be just as effective as a Minister”, the PM said.
“Meanwhile, Levan Davitashvili, who previously headed the Ministry, will move to a strategic advisory role. As part of broader efforts to strengthen the Economic Council, he will serve as the Prime Minister’s Chief Economic Advisor and act as the Council’s Secretary”, the PM continued.
Kobakhidze further highlighted economic development as his Government’s top priority, stressing that it affects not only the well-being of “our citizens” but also the development of every sector, the consolidation of the democratic institutions, and the foreign policy positions.
He added that removing Davitashvili from the daily administrative workload of the Ministry would allow him to focus on key strategic goals, including accelerating economic growth and attracting foreign investment.
“Mr. Davitashvili is an outstanding economist. From this new position, he will be able to carry out this important mission with even greater success”, the PM concluded.
