Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Sunday emphasised the Georgian Government’s commitment to transparency and anti-corruption efforts, responding to the recent detention of a former Deputy Minister of Economy.
In his remarks, Kadagishvili noted that Georgia ranked amongst the top countries worldwide in terms of low corruption levels, financial transparency, and budget accountability, highlighting that the Government's policy, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, was to ensure that Georgia becomes a global example of minimal corruption.
“As you know, Georgia holds one of the top positions globally in terms of low corruption rates. In terms of financial and budgetary transparency, it is a leading state. The Government’s and, in particular, the Prime Minister’s declared policy is that Georgia should be a global leader in terms of minimal corruption. Therefore, this is the policy and approach by which the authorities operate. Within the framework of the law, of course, anyone who has committed such violations, misconduct, or crimes will face action in accordance with the law”, Kadagishvili said.
