Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday said the support of Members of the European Parliament toward people convicted in Georgia showed that Europe and the European Union were not always the same.
Papuashvili’s response followed a joint photo taken by Members of the European Parliament Rasa Juknevičienė, Markéta Gregorová, Małgorzata Gosiewska and Petras Auštrevičius on social media, posing with posters supporting [imprisoned former President Mikheil] Saakashvili, Nika Melia, Girchi Japaridze and Mzia Amaglobeli.
In a social media message, Papuashvili emphasised that the task of Georgians and many European Union’s true European citizens should be to return Europe to the European Union
“Such moments show us that Europe and the European Union are not always the same. The task of our and many true European citizens of the European Union should be to return Europe to the European Union”, the Speaker said.
