David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Sunday emphasised the importance of the public paying close attention to the work of the parliamentary investigative commission, stating that they provide valuable insights into the country's past and why radical political forces should not be allowed to return to power.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted the commission had shed light on the severe human rights abuses and systemic violations that characterised the period before 2012.
“People should pay attention to these translations, as they once again clearly show why radicals, individuals consumed by hatred for their homeland, must not return to power”, the official said.
“The public was once again informed about the dire circumstances that existed in Georgia before 2012: massive systemic violations of human rights, the killing of young people in the streets, business extortion, and the distribution of Georgian land and water. People should heed these translations, as they clearly demonstrate why radicals, people consumed by hatred for their homeland, must never return to power under any circumstances”, he concluded.
