Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament, on Friday voiced concerns over foreign funding that, according to him, may not align with the stated objectives of grant agreements.
Makhashvili’s comments came after the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday publicly called on the British Embassy to disclose detailed information about its financial support related to Georgia's 2024 parliamentary elections.
In his remarks, Makhashvili emphasised that in light of these observations, it is “natural that there are questions regarding this issue”.
“It clearly became evident that their direct goal was to issue funding to organizations whose purpose was to disrupt elections. Therefore, it is natural that questions arise not only about this funding but also about other fundings”, Makhashvili said.
