Georgia on Tuesday formally opened its Consulate General in Milan, with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze participating in the opening ceremony. The new consulate will serve eight regions across Northern Italy.
During his address, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of Georgian independence and the nation's rich history.
“Independence is something that each of us should take care of. We are proud of our unique centuries-old history and proudly repeat that our country is 3,000 years old, while Georgia’s statehood has a 23-century history. Despite a difficult history, we have managed to maintain our independence and identity. Today, we proudly celebrate that Georgia is independent and sovereign as never before. We are still ready to defend our independence and sovereignty with all our might”, the PM said.
“Of course, when it comes to protecting the country’s national interests, friendly relations and partnerships are very important. We are proud of the relations that have been established between Georgia and Italy. We are connected by common values. I would also like to note that Georgians have a special attitude towards Italy and the Italian people. Georgians believe that among European nations, we are most similar to the Italians, and this is a source of our special pride”, he concluded.
