Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday expressed strong confidence in Tamar Taliashvili’s appointment as Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States, praising her professionalism, experience, and political credibility.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted that Taliashvili was a professional diplomat who would successfully represent Georgia in the United States.
“Tamar is a highly professional, experienced diplomat, and of course, she enjoys a great deal of political trust from both me and the Georgian Government. It is very important when an ambassador represents the country in a specific nation, in this case, the United States. I am confident that she will be a very successful ambassador and will make a significant contribution to strengthening relations between Georgia and the United States”, Botchorishvili said.
The FM further noted that the United States officially granted agreement to Taliashvili’s candidacy on June 4, clearing the way for her prompt departure to Washington to begin her diplomatic duties.
“The appointment and deployment of an ambassador to a country is a very important matter in bilateral relations. The process related to Ms. Tamar Taliashvili’s appointment has been completed. On June 4, we received the final agreement from the United States, which gives us the opportunity to have the ambassador travel to Washington in the shortest possible time and start working on important issues in Georgia-US relations. This is, of course, very significant. The issuance of the agreement by the United States is also gratifying for us, as the candidate we proposed and nominated was acceptable to them and has been confirmed. This is, of course, another good moment to look at Georgia-US relations with fresh eyes, from a new page”, she concluded.
The Government of Georgia on Tuesday officially nominated Tamar Taliashvili for the position of Ambassador of Georgia to the United States, submitting her candidacy to the President of Georgia for approval, as outlined in a decree published on the Government’s official website.
