Thea Tsulukiani, the Chair of the Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission examining crimes committed by the former United National Movement Government between 2003 and 2012, on Monday publicly invited the German Ambassador to Georgia to attend the commission’s sessions.
In her remarks, Tsulukiani remarked on the Ambassador's frequent attendance at court hearings involving opposition figures, suggesting he “seems to have a lot of free time”.
“The German Ambassador doesn’t miss a single trial of opposition representatives. Apparently, he has plenty of free time. So, I’d like to invite him to attend our commission’s sessions - with a translator”, the Chair said.
“Mr. Fischer - I hope I’m not getting the name wrong - must have a light schedule, since he’s regularly attending trials of political opposition figures. Those who end up in prison enjoy some of the best conditions. In fact, we’ve even been criticised for being too humane. So, Mr. Ambassador, I extend an invitation to you. Our doors are open. We’ll deliberate and then grant you the right to attend these sessions with your translator”, she continued.
She noted that the commission deliberately avoids naming individuals or detailing the torture methods, “because unlike Saakashvili, we respect the right to personal privacy and human dignity”.
“Our commission is open - come and listen. Only then will you be able to make informed judgments about who Saakashvili really was”, she concluded.
