Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday addressed the announced departure of US Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan, describing it as a "surprising departure" that raises many questions.
In his remarks, Kaladze emphasised the importance of the strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States, adding that such a relationship requires mutual commitment.
“It was an extraordinary departure. There are many questions regarding the way she left. The Georgian Government is ready to reset relations. For us, the strategic partnership and friendship with the United States is of utmost importance, and it must be mutual”, the ruling party official said.
He also claimed that certain individuals had been obstructing the relationship by providing the US administration with inaccurate information.
“There were individuals involved in this process who were obstructive, who provided the administration with incorrect information. However, I am convinced that everything will change radically. President Trump has set clear priorities, defeating the deep state, ending wars, which we welcome and fully support”, Kaladze concluded.
