Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Thursday emphasised the importance of maintaining peace as a cornerstone of national interest and sustainable development.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili highlighted that in the context of Georgia’s growing role in regional connectivity - particularly in the development of the Middle Corridor - the concept of peace takes on even greater significance.
“Our capital is hosting a large number of guests from various countries. The theme of the forum [the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development] is development, and of course, the key prerequisite for development is peace - something that is both highly relevant and pressing for us when we speak about progress. It has been repeatedly emphasised today that it is impossible to talk about development without peace. Peace is the very foundation we need in order to discuss our future. In recent years, we have faced serious challenges, and peace holds special significance for our country”, the FM said.
“These threats have not disappeared. To protect our country’s national interests and the future of our children, it is essential - above all - to maintain peace in our country and in the region. When we talk about Georgia’s role, especially in the development of the Middle Corridor, relationships with our neighbors and the potential for peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus take on a new and vital meaning”, she concluded.
