Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, on Thursday said there was a positive expectation that the new United States Ambassador to Georgia would act based on the real needs and interests that actually exist.
Ionatamishvili’s comments came after Robin Dunnigan, the United States Ambassador to Georgia, released a statement announcing that she has decided to retire.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Ionatamishvili wished Dunnigan success and emphasised that she had every opportunity to make a positive contribution to the reboot and strengthening of the partnership between the United States and Georgia.
“Of course, I have a positive expectation that the new Ambassador, who represents the American people in our country, will act based on the real needs and interests that actually exist. The fact is that Georgia is an important country today, and I believe that a partnership with Georgia means greater stability and prosperity not only in this region, but also offers many opportunities more broadly. I am confident that a reset in relations will be ensured”, Ionatamishvili said.
