Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday emphasised the country’s profound understanding of the value of peace, citing the country's experience of four wars in the past 35 years.
In his address at the Tbilisi Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, Kobakhidze noted that, despite significant pressure in recent years, Georgia had managed not only to preserve peace within its borders but also to contribute actively to peace and stability across the region.
“Despite the fact that there has been a lot of pressure on our country over the past few years, we have managed to maintain peace in Georgia. We are not only maintaining peace in the country, but we are also managing to support peace in the [South Caucasus] region around us, which is very important for the development of our country”, the Prime Minister said.
He emphasised the importance of hosting the Tbilisi Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the fourteenth time and having high-ranking guests.
He further highlighted the great importance of the theme of this year's conference - that was the role of peace for the sustainable social and economic development of the country and, in general, for the sustainable social and economic development of the world.
“There are various types of difficulties in our wider region, and in this situation, Georgia has always, over the years, played a positive role in the development of peace and, accordingly, in ensuring sustainable social and economic development in the region. Today's world is full of very big challenges when it comes to peace in particular - we have a military conflict going on in a wider region, a large-scale war, unfortunately, there are many wars around us, and in such a situation, we need to talk about the importance of peace”, Kobakhidze concluded.
