David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Wednesday responded to the recent report by the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, which urged the Georgian opposition to utilise the opportunity presented by upcoming local self-government elections.
In his remarks, Matikashvili criticised what he described as external interference and support for radical elements by some members of the European Parliament.
“This once again underscores how certain individuals in the European Parliament support radicals, how they want to back them and see them win. But here’s the thing - it is not the European Parliament or European bureaucracy that determines which party will win in Georgia or who will be in power. It all depends on the society. The Georgian people will make the decision”, Matikashvili concluded.
