Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday highlighted the shared values reflected in a congratulatory letter from the US President Donald Trump to Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, while noting the United States Embassy's failure to publish the letter, suggesting a deliberate omission.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze contrasted Trump’s letter with a prior United States State Department letter, which he claimed was intended to bolster an opposition rally.
“Two letters were published. The first was issued on behalf of the State Department, and in our view, it served only one purpose: to energise the opposition’s rally on May 26. However, you saw that even with maximum mobilisation, no more than 3,000 people attended the rally. Neither the letter nor the maximum mobilisation helped. Later, President Trump’s congratulatory letter, addressed to President Kavelashvili, was published. This letter reflected the shared values that connect the Georgian Government and President Trump’s administration”, Kobakhidze said.
He pointed out that the United States Embassy in Georgia had not published Trump’s letter on its website, interpreting this as a meaningful silence.
“However, you also see that the United States Embassy in Georgia has not published President Trump’s letter on its website to this day, already the fourth day, if I’m not mistaken. As they themselves would say, everything is clear. This is the only assessment I can make”, the PM concluded.
