Jeffrey Sachs, a Columbia University professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development, on Friday said Georgia needed wise state management, a clear idea of how the various global challenges would develop in the future.
“Georgia needs wise governance, a clear idea of how the various global challenges will develop in the future. The main thing is peace, cooperation and pragmatism, finding win-win opportunities for all, not believing in miracles, but realistic approaches”, Sachs said.
In his address at an international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the Georgian lari, Sachs emphasised the significant disruption of the old order in the world and claimed that one of the reasons for the new agenda was geopolitical changes.
He further added that in this process technological, ecological as well as demographic innovations played an important role.
Sachs also highlighted Georgia's difficult geopolitical location, which simultaneously created economic opportunities.
“For a small country like Georgia, its neighborhood presents a rather difficult situation, but at the same time it creates economic opportunities. The famous North-South and East-West corridors, which could connect Europe and Asia via the South Caucasus, pass through Georgia, and the country should use this opportunity wisely”, Sachs concluded.
