Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday emphasised the importance of market diversification for economic growth, stating that relying on a single market was not the correct approach.
In his remarks, Kaladze stressed the importance of prioritising national interests, stating that “as for economic activity, we will always make decisions that are in the best interest of our country and contribute to economic development”.
“In general, market diversification is extremely important. One should never be dependent on a single market. Just listen to President Trump’s statements, even regarding Iran”, the official said.
“We act based on our national interests. As for economic activity, we will always make decisions that are in the best interest of our country and contribute to economic development. There is nothing wrong with that”, he continued.
Regarding trade relations with the European Union, the Mayor noted that Georgia was also a competitive and attractive country in that context.
“We have a Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, which makes Georgia an appealing option in the region. For example, Chinese companies can come, manufacture products in Georgia, and export those goods to EU markets. This is a very important resource, and we are taking full advantage of it. We’re doing everything right in this direction”, Kaladze concluded.
