Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday commented on the US President Donald Trump’s congratulatory message to Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, calling it undoubtedly an important document that “should once and for all put an end to the political propaganda our opposition continues to promote regarding so-called recognition or non-recognition [of the Government]”.
In his remarks, Makhashvili added any rational observer should recognise this as nothing more than political propaganda.
He further noted that the ruling team was awaiting a reboot in the US-Georgia relations with cautious optimism.
“Of course, the President’s congratulatory letter is an important document, and it is encouraging that the President of Georgia received it. At the same time, it is important that this also be reflected in the United States’ new political approach. In this regard, we have rather positive expectations and, once again, we will await the reset of relations with the United States with cautious optimism”, the official said.
The United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday extended congratulations to his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Kavelashvili and the Georgian people on the occasion of the country’s 107th Independence Day, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
