David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Wednesday expressed optimism about the future of US-Georgia relations following a congratulatory message from US President Donald Trump to his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Kavelashvili on the occasion of the country's Independence Day.
“We are grateful to President Trump for his congratulatory message on Independence Day. It is encouraging to see such a gesture and respectful attitude from the US President toward Georgia's President, our Government, and the Georgian people”, Matikashvili said.
“It seems that in the near future Georgian-American relations will improve and will be based on equal relations with us, and this will be a starting point for new relations, which is important between the two countries”, he concluded.
The United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday extended congratulations to his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Kavelashvili and the Georgian people on the occasion of the country’s 107th Independence Day, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
