Speaking at a ceremony dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day, President Mikheil Kavelashvili reaffirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to European values and the European idea.
“Today, I once again want to emphasize Georgia's dedication to European values and the European ideal”, the President said.
He highlighted the historical roots of Georgia’s European identity, underscoring that the foundation for this path was laid by the nation’s ancestors.
“They understood that the Georgian people were co-creators of European civilization and an inseparable part of it. For centuries, Georgia stood alone at the far eastern edge of Europe, courageously and steadfastly defending Christian and European values - often at great cost, in blood and sacrifice”, the President said.
He further stressed that Georgia remained open to any relationship based on equality and mutual benefit, adding that the country’s decisions would always be grounded in its national interests.
“The Georgian Government, with the support of its people, will remain firm and unwavering in upholding these principles. We will not allow the Georgian people to become victims of the interests of certain forces”, Kavelashvili concluded.
