David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Friday said what was beneficial for democracy in European countries could not be counterproductive in Georgia.
Matikashvili’s remarks came in response to the statement of Alain Berset, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, saying double standards were damaging Europe's credibility and what was considered unacceptable in Georgia or Hungary should be evaluated by the same yardstick in Germany and Romania.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that everyone should listen to Berset's statement and understand that there was only one truth.
“It is time to listen to the statement of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and understand well that there is only one truth. There cannot be double standards and two or three truths. There is only one truth, which is beneficial for democracy in European countries, it cannot be counterproductive in Georgia, and the Secretary General says this too”, he said.
