Levan Davitashvili, the First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Friday said there was a lot of speculation regarding Georgia's path to joining the European Union.
In his interview with Euronews, Davitashvili noted that the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia was coordinating the implementation agenda of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) agreement, which was quite “extensive”.
“As you know, there is a lot of speculation regarding our path to European Union membership, but no real change has occurred in our policy. We have a single policy, which is based on the integration agenda officially approved by the government. All institutions - every Government body, ministry, and agency - are committed to implementing this agenda”, the First Vice PM said.
Davitashvili also emphasised that the Georgian Government had already fulfilled nearly 60 percent of the requirements.
“We are actively implementing significant reforms in the economy and across various sectors, including transport, energy, trade, and others. This remains a priority agenda and continues to be our focus. We are fully committed to the implementation of the DCFTA and the integration policy. We have clearly stated that our goal is full membership in the European Union by 2030. We understand that this is a long process, but we are completely dedicated to carrying out these important reforms. We remain steadfast in our commitment to these reforms, and the process is progressing very actively”, he concluded.
