Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Thursday said the MEGOBARI Act was a process planned and implemented by the previous US administration against the Georgian Government.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kavelashvili noted that the US President did not require Senate or Congressional approval to make decisions, including those related to Georgia.
“If the President has information on a specific issue, he has full authority to make and implement decisions. The MEGOBARI Act serves the same agenda I have discussed multiple times - certain forces are interested in changing the Government in Georgia, relying on NGOs and so-called political parties actively involved in this process”, the President said.
He further highlighted that the Act aimed to stir unrest and mislead the public in order to shift public opinion and change the Government.
“This is solely intended to provoke tension and deceive society, to alter attitudes toward the Government and trigger a change in leadership. This is its only purpose, and they do not even hide that it is being used to pressure the current administration”, Kavelashvili concluded.
The US House of Representatives passed the bill, known as the MEGOBARI Act on May 6.
