Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Thursday emphasised that it was necessary to reboot the relations between Georgia and the United States.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kavelashvili highlighted that both in the past and now, it has been stated that rebooting relations between Georgia and the United States was necessary.
“In Marco Rubio's responses yesterday, when Joe Wilson asked him a question, it became clear that the new US administration needs to have complete and accurate information. We said it before and we are saying it now: it is necessary to reboot the relations. The relationship should be between governments, not through the NGO sector or individual congressmen. American legislation allows various lobbying firms to fund certain congressmen and push forward their own interests and speak about them”, the President said.
“The people who showed up in front of the US Embassy with flags and Trump cutouts a few days ago are the same people who opposed Donald Trump’s election. We saw that everything was used to make sure Joe Wilson would ask Rubio a question like: Look at how these people are being oppressed in Georgia and what an anti-American government Georgia has. They are no longer ashamed of anything – they even put it in the headlines. I think Tina Khidasheli was the only one who denied that such terminology was used in reference to the Georgian Dream party”, he concluded.
