Archil Gorduladze
Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee, on Thursday strongly refuted claims of an anti-American government in Georgia, stating that the current Georgian administration was committed to fostering equal and equitable relationships with all partner countries and organisations.
Gorduladze’s comments came in response to remarks made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the House of Representatives regarding Georgia.
Gorduladze characterised the question posed by Representative Joe Wilson in the House of Representatives as “provocative”, suggesting that the diplomat's answer was the only possible response under the circumstances.
“Let’s be clear - Georgia does not have an anti-American government. On the contrary, our government is eager to build equal and respectful partnerships with all allied countries and institutions. The question posed by Congressman Joe Wilson was provocative. Any diplomat in that situation would have been compelled to respond as Secretary Rubio did - with a general statement. However, it’s important to assess whether such a government exists in Georgia. The answer is no”, the Parliament official said.
He also reaffirmed that Georgia remained a pro-Western nation, guided by democratic principles, national dignity, and sovereignty.
“Georgia has a pro-Western Government that values democratic principles founded on dignity, our history, and our national sovereignty. This was the essence of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s open letter and the statements by other members of our team. We are focused on taking strategic partnerships to the next level through structured and transparent dialogue”, he continued.
“We remain open to all forms of cooperation and are committed to building strong partnerships. We demonstrate this both behind closed doors and publicly. If reciprocal steps are taken, that would be another step forward in improving bilateral relations - relations that were seriously damaged by the former [Biden] administration managed by the deep state”, Gorduladze concluded.
