Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday criticised opposition parties ahead of Georgia’s local self-government elections, claiming they were acting in the interest of foreign powers and had no realistic chance of winning.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the outcome of the upcoming elections was already clear, regardless of the opposition’s actions or strategies.
“It doesn’t matter what decision they make, what orders they receive, how they’re told to act - they are doomed to defeat. They have no chance whatsoever. How can a political party that serves the interests of another country have any chance of winning an election?” he said.
Kaladze further said that his team had already begun preparations for the local elections.
“We began preparations a long time ago. Even though many good projects have been implemented both in the capital and in the regions, of course, challenges remain. Therefore, we need to meet with people in every region, municipality, and in the capital, and tell them what we plan to do in the coming years”, he concluded.
