Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday strongly criticised the European bureaucracy, asserting that “facts indicate that the European bureaucracy is absolutely unjust towards the Georgian people and our state”.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze further accused the European bureaucracy of creating artificial obstacles to Georgia's European integration.
“If anyone is creating artificial barriers to Georgia’s European integration, it is precisely the European bureaucracy, which made a completely unsubstantiated and unfair decision in 2022 by refusing to grant Georgia candidate status. They repeated this injustice in December, March, June - for two years, they have made unfair decisions against Georgia and the Georgian people”, the PM said.
He stressed that this pattern of decisions culminated in the EU’s latest refusal to open accession talks with Georgia, another move he called “unjust”.
“We begged for candidate status - they refused and told us we were not pro-European. We begged to start negotiations — they refused again and claimed we didn’t want European integration. But it’s obvious who really didn’t want it”, Kobakhidze continued.
Kobakhidze also accused the EU Ambassador to Georgia of direct interference in domestic elections.
“The EU Ambassador directly came out and interfered in Georgia's elections. He directly stated that on election day, voter mobilisation was needed in order to change the current government. This is an anti-democratic action”, he concluded.
