Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said the Georgian Government was holding positive expectations regarding its future cooperation with the new US administration.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Samkharadze noted the alignment between the Georgian Government and the new US administration in both foreign policy and values.
“Our positive expectations are based on the statements made by the American side. I’m referring to the alignment in values, as well as the belief that our foreign policy goals and vision are consistent with those of the new US administration”, the Parliament official said.
Samkharadze added that the Georgian Government was hopeful about improving and strengthening bilateral relations. However, he noted surprise at the current lack of active communication.
“We are optimistic and hopeful that these relations will improve and be revitalized. Still, we are surprised by the silence thus far. Compared to the situation in October and November of last year, the current state has certainly improved, but that doesn’t mean we are satisfied. We want to see even closer ties and a genuine strategic partnership, which has long been the foundation of our relationship”, he concluded.
