Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said his Government was “absolutely open” to renewing its strategic partnership with the United States, aiming for a specific and results-oriented cooperation rather than a general framework.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kobakhidze expressed readiness to establish a specific roadmap outlining mutual benefits for both countries.
“We are absolutely open to renewing our strategic partnership with the United States. We want this partnership to be tangible and not general, as we had been used to in the past. We are ready to establish a concrete roadmap for both countries that reflects mutual benefits - for Georgia and for the US”, the PM said.
He also commented on his open letter addressed to the United States President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, noting that his Government had previously engaged in written communication with the Trump administration and after receiving no response, the Georgian Government decided to publish an open letter.
“The open letter was issued on my behalf, and of course, it reflects the official position of the government, and therefore the position of our state. We are currently awaiting a response. In addition to written correspondence, I also made public statements expressing our readiness for a renewed strategic partnership - again, one that is tangible and mutually beneficial. But so far, there has been no reply, which is why we opted for the open letter format”, Kobakhidze continued.
Kobakhidze highlighted the perceived “clear alignment of values” and approaches between Georgia and the US. He cited the example of Romania, where the Trump administration condemned actions taken with the support of the European bureaucracy.
