Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday commented on the open letter of the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze addressed to US President Donald Trump, emphasising the need for clarity from the United States administration regarding its stance on Georgia to ensure the continued effectiveness of the two countries’ strategic partnership.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili underscored the importance of the United States-Georgia relationship, calling for clear communication from the newly elected United States administration to support the functioning of the existing strategic agreement between the two countries.
“For Georgia, relations with the United States are very important. Precisely because of this importance, we expect certain messages from the United States side when we talk about a qualitative reset of relations and a fair approach towards Georgia. Over the years, Georgia has repeatedly demonstrated that it is a strategically important partner for the United States”, Botchorishvili said.
The Foreign Minister added that Georgia had consistently proven itself to be a strategically important partner for the United States.
“Over the years, Georgia has repeatedly demonstrated that it is a strategically important partner for the United States. Naturally, it is important for us to ensure the functioning of the strategic agreement that exists between our two countries, and for that, we need to understand what the new United States administration’s position on Georgia is”, she concluded.
