Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday criticised the recently renamed MEGOBARI Act, stating that the document was based not only on false information but also represented a fundamental distortion of the reality in Georgia.
“The so-called Friendship Act, which, as we have seen, was even renamed by its authors - presumably because it was anything but about friendship - is not only based on incorrect facts, but, in its essence, is a complete inversion of the reality on the ground in Georgia”, the Speaker said.
He emphasised that, as always, the Georgian side aimed to respond by presenting the truth grounded in arguments and solid facts.
“Our goal remains to show once again what the real situation is, based on facts and sound reasoning. We will also deliver our own assessment in this regard, because what we saw in the act passed by the House of Representatives clearly contradicts every notion of friendship”, he continued.
He concluded by noting that the public would have the opportunity to observe and participate in the discussion around this issue, and the Parliament of Georgia would formally express its stance through an official statement.
