Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday said the world was witnessing the dismantling of “false ideologies” under the new US administration, ideologies he claimed had been imposed on European societies for years.
In his remarks, Papuashvili highlighted a kind of awakening within Europe itself.
“What the world is closely observing under the new US administration is the dismantling of false ideologies that were for years forced upon, particularly, European societies. In this regard, we are witnessing a kind of awakening within Europe itself”, the Speaker said.
He further criticised what he called distorted interpretations of liberalism and ideological frameworks that, in his words, replaced genuine values with “Orwellian” substitutes.
“That era is coming to an end. It is important that all EU Governments face this reality”, he continued.
Commenting on broader geopolitical shifts, the Georgian Parliament Speaker pointed to the war in Ukraine as a turning point.
“The moment Russia launched its aggressive war, it was declared a tectonic geopolitical shift. Where this leads is hard to predict, but it’s clear that many in Europe are still unprepared to address the resulting challenges with competent answers”, Papuashvili noted.
“We are witnessing very superficial and reckless politics from some European leaders,” he pointed out.
“In this regard, Prime Minister Orbán’s call, including at today’s forum, is noteworthy. He urged all Governments to approach the geopolitical challenges of the past three years with full responsibility, awareness, and in line with the interests of their own people”, Papuashvili concluded.
