Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday confirmed that he had received an official invitation to participate in the upcoming European Political Summit, scheduled to take place in Albania on May 16.
In response to a journalist’s question about whether meetings with European partners were planned during the visit, the Prime Minister said that while formal bilateral meetings were not typically organised within this summit format, there would be opportunities for informal discussions with various leaders.
“Official meetings are rarely held in this type of format, but there are always opportunities for conversations with leaders in the corridors. We will make the most of those opportunities. We’re ready to speak with anyone who’s open to a fair, healthy, and non-Soviet approach. Unfortunately, today the European Union - not the Soviet Union - is showing a Soviet-style attitude through some of its leaders”, the PM said.
He emphasised his willingness to engage in dialogue with all European leaders but criticised what he described as intentional silence from certain officials.
“My European approach is to talk to everyone. But the silence we are seeing - again, not from everyone, but from certain leaders - suggests a Soviet-style mentality. This silence may have one explanation: someone has planned this injustice and is trying to deliberately harm our national interests. We will stand firm in defense of our national interests”, he concluded.
