The United States Embassy in Georgia on Thursday issued a new statement informing American citizens that the security precautions related to three shopping centers in Tbilisi - East Point, Galleria Tbilisi, and Tbilisi Mall - have been lifted.
“Subsequent to the Alert sent by the US Embassy on May 7, Georgian law enforcement advised Embassy Tbilisi last night that no explosive devices were located at any of the three malls. The Regional Security Office has lifted its recommendation that Embassy staff avoid those locations”, the US Embassy said.
The Embassy encouraged US citizens to stay alert, monitor local media, and remain aware of their surroundings.
The Embassy on Wednesday released a warning to its citizens stating that it had received information about a potential bomb threat at the three shopping malls.
In response, Georgia’s State Security Service issued a statement urging accredited diplomatic missions in the country to respect the work of national security services, act responsibly, and refrain from making public statements without prior coordination with relevant authorities.
