Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said that Georgia’s current leadership would continue to defend national interests regardless of external pressure, including threats and potential sanctions.
In his remarks, Kaladze accused foreign actors of orchestrating attempts to destabilise Georgia, emphasising that the Government would not waver in its commitment to national sovereignty.
“We have seen what has been happening inside the country in recent years and months. We witnessed specific scenarios - first, journalists tried to incite a revolution, then NGOs, then political parties, and then members of society, and so on. We saw many scenarios, but don’t think these were planned in Georgia. Everything is being managed from the outside”, the ruling party Sec Gen said.
“They have their handlers-specific individuals and organisations who are planning these kinds of actions and coup attempts. Statements by certain ambassadors and funding coming from specific countries are part of the processes we are now seeing in Georgia”, he continued.
He stressed that, regardless of sanctions or diplomatic pressure, the ruling Georgian Dream party would prioritise national interests and sovereignty over external expectations.
"As for the sanctions - when we talk about our homeland and its interests, we will always stand where our country and its future need us. We will not surrender our country’s interests because of threats or sanctions”, he concluded.
