Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday criticised the United States House of Representatives’ support for the MEGOBARI act, calling it a hostile act cloaked in the language of friendship and a product of what he claimed was the prevailing influence of the deep state.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze questioned how a law that, in his view, undermined Georgia’s elected Government could be labelled “friendly”.
“Once again, we see an Orwellian approach - that a friend is an enemy, war is peace, and so on. This is a continuation of that. How can a bill be called the MEGOBARI Act when it is completely permeated with hostility towards the Georgian people and their democratically elected Government? This is a hostile act”, the PM said.
“The struggle between Trump and the Deep State continues. When such a decision is made, it means that at that specific moment, the deep state prevailed over the Trump administration. That is what we witnessed just a few days ago”, he continued.
Kobakhidze emphasised his belief that relations with the United States could improve if former President Donald Trump overcame what Kobakhidze called anti-sovereign forces within the United States establishment.
We still hold an optimistic expectation that the Trump administration will defeat the deep state. If that happens, then relations between Georgia and the United States will be restored. In his assessment, there are people who are not under the influence of President Trump, but rather of the deep state - and Joe Wilson is one such person. He is completely part of the deep state”, Kobakhidze said.
