Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday strongly criticised the United States House of Representatives’ support for the MEGOBARI act, labeling the influence behind it as a “nightmare” not only for Georgia but for the entire world.
Speaking to reporters, Kirtskhalia stated that “It is a nightmare, that force, not only for Georgia but for the world, from where these so-called lobbyists and alleged pro-democracy speakers, who are directly establishing dictatorial authorities and bureaucrats, are managed. When they talk about nightmares, they must have the moral right to do so”.
He further asserted that even the title of the bill - MEGOBARI Act - was “insulting” to Georgia and the Georgian society.
Kirtskhalia also noted that the bill would now proceed to the Senate for hearings, after which it would require the President's signature to become law.
In this context, he suggested that it would become clear to what extent President Trump adheres to his own declared political course.
