Givi Mikanadze, the Chair of the Parliament’s Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, on Monday said the MEGOBARI Act was not friendly in any way but was directed against the country and the Georgian public.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Mikanadze noted that logically, the MEGOBARI Act should not have continued in the spirit in which it had been initiated.
“If American lawmakers really want a friendly act towards Georgia to be adopted, we only welcome it, although its content should be changed by 180 degrees”, Mikanadze said.
He further commented on the recent official visit of Levan Davitashvili, the First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, to the United States, noting the positive components that accompanied this visit were certainly providing a complete sense of optimism.
“This was the first contact with representatives of the [United States President Donald] Trump’s administration in various directions. The positive components that accompanied this visit, both from an economic point of view, as well as in terms of negotiations in the political and security context, certainly give a full sense of optimism, but with all this, the Act called the so-called MEGOBARI Act, which is in no way friendly and is against our country and our public, seems completely illogical”, he concluded.
