Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said the MEGOBARI Act showed the deep state had not yet been defeated and had deeply rooted itself.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the agent network had repeatedly attempted to stage a coup in Georgia.
“For years, hundreds of millions were spent to create an agent network, so that when needed, they could stage coups in the country - something that was attempted many times in Georgia. All of this was financed by NED, USAID, and various other foundations. The deep state has not been defeated. We are defending our country's interests. If Trump manages to defeat it, we will only welcome that, and it will also reflect positively on us. We will not allow anyone, no matter how big the country - to trample on our interests and use us the way, for example, Ukraine was used”, the ruling party Sec Gen said.
Kalade emphasised that the Georgian side welcomed the opportunity to start a new chapter in relations with the United States.
“We have stated multiple times that we welcome a reset in relations and a fresh start. The current situation is unacceptable for us and for them as well. The previous administration was telling us that black is white, pushing a narrative filled with lies and propaganda. We want all of that to end”, Kaladze noted.
“We want relations to be friendly, based on partnership and mutual respect. It is unacceptable for a major power, such as the United States, to look down on a smaller country - one that has rich traditions and culture”, he concluded.
