David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Monday said that since the parliamentary elections last October, the approval rating of the ruling Georgian Dream party had further increased, while the public trust in the radical opposition had reached “near-zero levels”.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that the upcoming local elections would be no exception.
“In Georgia, the sole source of legitimacy is the Georgian people, who since 2012 have continuously supported only the Georgian Dream, while pointing the radical opposition toward the political waste bin”, the MP said.
“Public trust in the radicals is extremely low - virtually at zero. The agent-driven opposition acts only on instructions. So, if they decide to participate in the elections, it will be by directive, if they don’t, that too won’t be their own decision”, Matikashvili concluded.
