Levan Davitashvili, the First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Thursday said the appointment of Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States was proceeding according to established procedures.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Davitashvili clarified that the topic of the ambassadorial appointment was not discussed during his recent meetings in the United States.
“I spoke with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the visit, and I also had discussions with the [US] Ambassador. Based on the information I received, the process is proceeding in a planned manner and following the established timeline without any delays. Therefore, it was not necessary or appropriate to raise or discuss the issue with our US counterparts”, the Minister said.
He emphasised that the appointment process was ongoing in a regular manner and must go through all required formal procedures.
Georgia's previous Ambassador to the United States David Zalkaliani stepped down from his position in November 2024.
